Weakness: only minor improvements

If you have other versions of madden than you might not need to pick up this one. if you are a fan of the series or do not own a madden then this is the best yet.

Decent game

Strengths: Graphics, realism, weather effects, backtrack

Weakness: controls, price, franchise mode, interceptions over the middle

This is a decent game. I have been playing the PC version of this game for few years now. So, the look and feel is similar. However, I really like the graphics. It also has a virtual trainer mode which allows you to learn about the controls but I haven't had much success with it. I wish they had allowed you to manually set the controls as well. The game is pretty realistic in my opinion. I like the weather effects. I just played a rain affected game. I saw that the uniforms were pretty dirty. I like the new backtrack feature. I wish they do it for on demand so you can look at it whenever you want. I still think that price is a little steep though pretty much all the PS3 game are sold for $60 now. They should have improved the franchise mode a lot more. There isn't anything new. It did seem that simulation is little on the slow side. I also noticed that the interceptions over the middle are just happening too often. The defenders can jump up really high!

Most will say 09 is just another madden game. To most people it is, but some how every year ea manages to get people to buy madden. The visuals look better, the controls are tighter and the different play modes are all part of the madden package. The addition of the backtrack feature is nice as it allows players to see how a play was messed up and lets them redo it, kind of cheap though. Online leagues was something everyone wanted, but it isn’t implemented very well and hopefully gets tweaked in upcoming additions.

Madden is one of the very few franchises that puts out an even further refined product nearly every year. This year's Madden is another good purchase. The gameplay engine in 08 was so much improved that football was exciting again as a video game. This year is about refining the graphics, presentation, and gameplay. Nearly all areas have been improved. The graphics look even better with players that look more like the real deal, more of the details that have been missing, such as the field goal nets, a better looking field, and realistic looking weather. The dynamic camera presents the action better and the commentary replaces the radio announcer that so many complained about. Playing feels even more like an NFL game. Even with the few glitches here and there, this is an incredible game of football. I purchased both the XBox 360 and Playstation 3 version and they are nearly identical. Only a couple small differences stand out. With the Playstation 3 version, some of the pre-play menus are hard to read because they use black over a dark background where the 360 version uses white. They both run nearly the same, but with HDMI on my PS3 and not on my 360 the PS3 version definitely looks better.
