Madden is the only game in town if you wish to play NFL football. EA has bought up or destroyed any competition they had in football games. Thankfully they do put out a good product.
Madden 2002 is the latest in EA's yearly football updates. Madden 2002 is the first Madden for gamecube and at the time featured the best in gaming football visuals. Its descendants have slightly improved on the looks since this release. But this game still looks good and isn't blown away by the newer versions.
The sounds are much like the graphics, overall, pretty good, but surpassed by recent editions. Changes aren't mind blowing, but perceptible. The game features the usual EA emphasis on glitz and presentation, with on air voice talent including Madden, and several licensed music pieces.
If you have interest in American football, then this is the game you are going to buy. Your level of interest will determine if this game is right for you. The game itself features lots of well executed modes and unlockables, in addition to an excellent game of football. The main problem is how much value you place in up to date rosters, logos and stadia. Madden 2002 is outdated when it comes to these issues and the latest editions are far more accurate. However, if you don't care about such things, then Madden 2002 possesses an excellent game of football and a low price.

Weakness: Outdated rosters, takes up nearly all the space on the Memory Card 59.

At the time (2001), Madden 2002 was a great game of pigskin. But here we are in 2005 and Madden 2006 is almost upon us. This game is missing all the great Franchise innovations (Owner mode, Tony Bruno talk show, etc) that have been built upon over the last few iterations of Madden. Not to mention that this game is completely void of the great "hit stick" feature, which appeared circa Madden 2004....

Not to mention that this game is completely void of the great "hit stick" feature, which appeared circa Madden 2004. Don't get me wrong, this is a great football game but there's really no reason to pick up this game unless you are attached to a particular roster or team from that season. I myself have held onto Madden 2002 in order to relive the 49ers Jeff Garcia-to-Terrell Owens connection (even though they don't get along together in real life).
