Just like mama used to make

Strengths: Lots of fun for only $19.99.

Weakness: Multiplayer would have been nice.

Cooking Mama is essentially a whole collection of brief mini-games. There are 76 recipes in all. Most of the recipes are taken from the Japanese cuisine. The gameplay is simply amazing and the game is generally good. The game is basically composed of more than 30 mini-games, where you will need to perform several cooking tasks. Depending on how good you play each one, you will be awarded one of 3...

A fun, odd game

Strengths: Fun presentation, interesting Japanese recipes, budget price

Weakness: Can get repetitive or frustrating, some minigames aren't explained too well or are just frustrating

Cooking Mama is a niche, Japanese game that you would not normally see stateside. It's a series of similar minigames used to create culinary dishes, so naturally many dishes share the same steps and because of this it can get frustrating. However, it can be fun and it doesn't bank on a goofy factor like Warioware does. There are 76 or so recipes in the game to unlock and play. Some of the...

Unique and Fun Budget Title!

Strengths: Unique gameplay, 76 recipes, tons of fun, low price

Weakness: Not much replay value, no multiplayer

This is a very interesting game that you wouldn't have expected to make it to US shores. You do everything from cracking eggs to cooking fish over charcoal using the stylus input. It can get frantic and often frustrating trying to get things perfect for 100% ratings, but it's a lot of fun for a budget-priced game. The only downsides are that once you're done getting 100% on all the recipes and...

Just Like Mama

Strengths: Cooking Mama is an easy pick up and play $20 game.

Weakness: I have not found any.

Cooking Mama is a whole collection of short mini-games. There are four menus: Let's Cook, Combine, Use Skill, and options. Completing all of the initial 76 recipes is rather easy. Let's Cook mode (the main game) seems like a practice round for the Use Skill mode. Use Skill is a mode where it takes each individual mini-game and turns it into a time-based challenge mode. Cooking Mama is a game...

The most fun cooking will ever be

Strengths: Great use of the touch-screen

Weakness: Not a very deep game

Cooking Mama is a stellar example of what a budget title should be. Great and intuitive use of the stylus controls, lacking only in depth and presentation. Each recipe is essentially a collection of mini-games using the stylus as a knife, stirrer, hand, etc. All are quite a bit of fun, though a few can be rather difficult to master. The game isn't incredibly deep as most recipes will reuse many...
