Strengths: Like the Warrior's series? Well now it's portable!

Weakness: However, gameplay is probably not what you're thinking

So now we finally have a portable version of Samurai Warriors. However, instead of one big map, now we have several sections of a map. You travel section by section and it just doesn't feel the same. There's slightly less options than the PS2 versions and it feels like a cheapened experience. If you want a good version of this, you should go buy the PSP version of Warriors Orochi.

Koei brings Samurai Warriors to the PSP in SW: State of War. In this installment, you can play as one of several people from the warring states era of Japan in several different "what-if" scenarios that feature fictional alliances and other such things.

Characters gain weapons and most skills from defeated enemies. The skills grow in power whenever characters use their musou attacks to kill enemies, and include activating 2x attack, being able to use the true musou attack at all times, and various elemental attacks.

The game has quite a few different enemy types along with the legions of foot soldiers. These include fat ninjas that can ram through a field of soldiers, archers, and fire ninjas that throw bombs. The game lets you chose the amount of challenge you want, so that is not an issue.

The thing about this game is that the outside levels are lame battlefields that don't have any traps like bamboo shafts, arbalests, or other large siege weapons. It kind of cheapens the experience a bit because the battlefields start to look the same after a while.

Of course, the game tries to make up for this by adding a tactical map to govern movement on the battlefield. The game allows you to use charms on these maps, which do thing such as healing you and your subofficers, poisoning enemy generals, and preventing them from moving.

One more thing: the missions the game forces you to do are not that diverse. The game has about 5 or so, and they include killing enemies in a certain amount of time, defeating enemy captains, and protecting allies, which is basically killing enemy captains. A bit more variety in mission types would have made this game a bit more fun.

Overall, SW: SoW is somewhat disappointing. If the developers took a bit more care in creating the game, it could have been fun. As it stands, SoW is somewhat lacking.
