Weakness: needs more depth

The game has good concept. the sound effects are awesome. It's kid friendly and they will surely love it. I wish there was more depth in the game. I like to play.

Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is a fun sports game, though aimed mainly at kids. You can play, at first, as any of the 4 Hogwarts house teams. Play starts off fairly easy, and the options are somewhat limited. You chase after the quaffle and try to steal with one button. Once you get it, you can pass, and when you get near the opponents goals, you shoot. After a time, the snitch will appear and you become Harry (or someone else if you aren't using Gryffindor) and try to catch the snitch by following it's trail closely (not veering too far to the left or right).

Once you win the house championship you can join one of the international teams and play for the World Cup. At this point the difficulty increases. It is a good setup for kids as both my 9 year-old and 5 year-old were able to win the House Cup, but then had difficulty after that.

It is definitely fun to fly around, and this part of the game is very well done. The only issue with the game is the lack of depth to the gameplay - there isn't much to do except steal, pass, and shoot (and then catch the snitch). But this is to be expected from a made-up game that isn't really played anywhere and thus hasn't passed the test of time as a true sport. It certainly pales in comparison to other sports games like NCAA Football with the deep playbooks and strategy options.

Overall, however, EA has made an enjoyable game that captures the essence of Quidditch pretty well for Harry Potter fans.

The Harry Potter games by EA have been largely good games, faithful to the source material. However those games have all but neglected a very large part of the Potter universe, the wizarding sport of Quidditch. EA saw the obvious moneymaker that Quidditch represented and the longtime sports developer has finally released a game based on Harry Potter's favorite sport.
Visually Quidditch World Cup is by no means a stunner, but the game's visuals are quite fitting in their style. The game looks good and has a somewhat cartoony take on the Potter world. The graphics will not set the world on fire, but they are very much up to the job and should please most fans.
The Sound is pleasantly surprising. It features orchestrated pieces of music, in the vein of style presented in the Potter films. The voice work is also up to the task featuring good takes on the mostly European cast. Solid sound effects round out the package with the whoosh of broomsticks and whack of bludgers.
The gameplay in Quidditch World Cup is solid, but could have been much more. It features all of the action that Rowling's writing make seem so exciting, but in the game the player is somewhat limited. There is no vertical control of the game, that is, it takes place all at the same altitude. No great sweeping dives or feints. The game does have some acrobatic special moves that can be earned farther into the game but it hardly makes up for the lack of vertical control. Certainly this game is aimed at a younger audience that needs simplified controls, but there should have been a more direct mode for experienced players. The rest of the play is solid, but lacks a real sense of riding on a Nimbus stick, not enough speed. EA should have looked to their hockey and soccer games as a clue to what Quidditch should be like. As it is, the gameplay is solid, but far from what it could have or should have been.
Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup was a no-brainer coming from the current king of sports gaming. It features lots to unlock and all the popular characters from the books. A solid if uninspired take on quidditch along with good presentation, Quidditch is worth a look, especially to fans. Too bad the game isn't as good as EA's other sports offerings, it could have brought more fans to the table for both EA and the Potter books.

Are you ready for some quidditch?

It's not a huge problem though and will not prevent you from enjoying the game. The gameplay was not complicated at all. It is fast paced with lots of combos and special moves. The game also has many references to the movies for the enjoyment of the hardcore fans. If you're a big fan of Harry Potter, I recommend you buy this game. Many places are selling it for $15 or less now so its not very expensive.

You certainly appreicate more how good Harry Potter is by playing his part as a seeker! Highly recommend to buy one! I hope it can include some mini games other than quidditch.
